Shanghai University of Electric Power (SUEP), founded in 1951, is a full-time institution of higher education, joint running by the central government and Shanghai Municipal Government. The development of SUEP had experienced several major progress, such as Shanghai electric power school, Shanghai electric power industry school and Shanghai electric power technical college. SUEP was approved by the Ministry of Education for the undergraduate education and the official name of Shanghai University of Electric Power in March 1985. The university had acquired the master’s degree granting right in 2006, in the same year, the university passed the Ministry of Education Undergraduate Teaching Evaluation with distinction. Furthermore, the university has achieved a milestone progress of the Doctor 's degree granting in 2018.
After 67 years of development, the university has formed a pragmatic and practical, reasonable educational philosophy, based on the electric power, based on the application, based on the front-line characteristics and the motto of patriotic, diligent, pragmatic, forge ahead . There are two campus: Yangpu and Lingang campus. The university has more than 12,000 full-time students. SUEP has established 12 colleges, namely Energy and Mechanical Engineering, Environmental and Chemical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Automation Engineering, Computer Science and Technology, Electronics and Information Engineering, Economics and Management, Mathematics and Physics, Foreign Languages, International Exchange, Continuing Education, and Marxism, together with one department of Physical Education.
